I am a recent graduate of the Birkbeck Theatre Directing MFA with a particular interest in what is lovingly termed 'dicking about with classics'. I am the artistic director of Mingled Yarn, a theatre company that focuses on reworkings of classics like Shakespeare and the Greeks alongside adaptations of existing works in other forms. We are also interested in new writing that experiments with storytelling form and particularly enjoy gender-, age- and colour-blind casting.
We are currently working on a rehearsed reading of a new play by David Ralf, called 'Ad Liberation', to be staged at the Bread and Roses Theatre in Clapham on March 9th 2015.
Most recently, Mingled Yarn brought 'Harry the King' to Edinburgh, a new look at Shakespeare's Henry V, performed by only two actors. We then went on to workshop the piece at the Hope Theatre in Islington in December 2014 and working on a further development of it.
From August 2013 to May 2014, I was on secondment at the Sheffield Crucible as their Resident Assistant Director. My work at Sheffield has included assisting on The Winter's Tale (Shakespeare), Love Your Soldiers (Robin Hooper), Afterplay (Brian Friel), and Boeing Boeing (Marc Camoletti), as well as directing several rehearsed readings for the Brian Friel season and putting together a new piece called 'Sonya and Andrey' that was inspired by Afterplay and performed by Niamh Cusack and Sean Gallagher.
