I've always been inspired by culture in all forms - literature, film, music, performance & visual art. In my studies (I'm currently working towards a PhD in Contemporary Venezuelan Literature at King's College London, having completed an MA in European Studies at Cardiff University, and a degree in French. Spanish and - more! - European Studies from the University of Bath), I focus on the link between culture and identity, and culture and the socio-historical context. Outside of my studies, I'd say I'm a 'cultural promoter'. For the last five years, I've been heavily involved in student media - mainly radio, but also newspaper and magazine - promoting the arts through news, reviews and interviews. I particularly enjoy finding and supporting new talent, especially student work. Since December 2011, I've put all of this passion for culture into my blog - katiebrownonculture.blogspot.com - as well as guest posts wherever I can get them. In the long run. I want to get into academia, but I believe that academia is far too much of a bubble and so want to keep interacting with the wider public whatever way I can (online, in the press, on broadcast media), to share the culture that inspires me with as many people as possible.
