Turning tricks with Paul Daniels

09/08/11 at 12:57 — edited 10/08/11 at 10:34

It’s not often that your Victorian magic tutorial is interrupted by Paul Daniels.

It’s possibly even rarer for Paul Daniels to then take you aside after the show and invite you to ruffle through his wallet. It moves beyond the bounds of all reasonable expectation for Paul Daniels to then embark on a slow dance with the lovely Debbie McGee just inches away from your card-flicking fingers.

Which is titillating, even if a little distracting, when you’re trying to master the art of palming a coin.

This morning Luiza and Nell enjoyed a thoroughly Victorian magic lesson at the IdeasTap Hub with Morgan & West, two time-travelling magic men who want to teach the Edinburgh Fringe how to bring a little mystery and marvel to their shows.

We learned how to make coins disappears, how to make a card appear and how to read minds. Well, okay, that final part didn’t quite work out. But we did make Paul Daniels materialise out of thin air.

So put that in your top hat and smoke it.
