About me

Emily Williams is a producer who’s professional interest lies in risk taking, stories, the relationship between artist and producer and how to develop and culture and ambitious and fertile live performance scene across Exeter and Devon.

Between November 2010 and March 2012 she worked as Creative Producer at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth. She began life there on a 6 month paid internship as a Future Producer, which then became a permanent role. During this time her role included producing In the Flesh, a 3 day fiesta of performance, with an artistic vision to provide a risk space for artists and to encourage experimentation with the ’live-ness’ of performance.

She also produced and managed Flourish. Flourish is the artist development strand which provides support and development of new work being created in the South West by artists living and making work in the region.

In November 2010 Emily is also the co-founded Wide Awake Devon with Monique Luckman. Wide Awake Devon became a project funded Community Interest Company in May 2011. Wide Awake Devon committed to providing frameworks for learning and support for the Devon performance sector.
Our work provided opportunities that enabled the making and producing of new work through the development and commitment to building a culture of productivity, connectivity, quality and ambition using collaborative practice, which ultimately began to lead to the recognition of Devon based artists across the UK.

From April 2012 to now, Emily has worked as a producer for Exeter based Kaleider. Kaleider work with all sorts of people from all sorts of backgrounds to design, produce and promote live experience. Her role involves producing and commissioning artists to make work in sites across Exeter, as well as to create and offer bespoke development opportunities to artists that she finds interesting. She also works to develop relationships with national and local partners to deliver ambitious projects that meaningfully and joyfully interrupt Exeter and it’s residents.

Emily has also collaborated with Theatre Bristol on a small project called ‘Are you a Producer?’, this collaboration has so far, involved holding 2 open spaces, 1 in Bristol and 1 in Plymouth (July 2011) .
