A week at the tap

A week at the tap

Superheroes, Spamalot, sexy Darth Vader and some winning short film screenings – it’s been a rather splendid week here at IdeasTap…

Like a rocket pad at the Kennedy Space Centre, IdeasTap has seen the launch of several rather exciting things this week.

For all you aspiring journalists out there we launched two – count them– two amazing new briefs. Win the chance to cover a programme of short films at the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival or two events at the pioneering London Word Festival.

Here in our Magazine section we launched a fresh new homepage and exciting way of searching things. Have a test drive and let us know what you think; I imagine you’ll find it super.

Talking of super, our multimedia megaman Steve G posted a lovely blog all about his artistic superheroes, while Nell interviewed one of her theatre heroes, Mannie Manim, about apartheid, long trousers and touring the townships with The Market Theatre.

This week we have also been joined by the lovely Catherine Thomas who interviewed our Olivier award-winning member Ben Cooper all about OperaUpClose. Talking of the Oliviers, our new performing arts column UpStaged looked at the phenomenon of animals in theatre starting with the award-winning Chihuahua from Legally Blonde: The Musical.

Another one of our winners is the director Lotte Wakeham who this week not only spoke to Tilly Michel about her impressive list of credits, but was also chosen for the TS Eliot US/UK Exchange.

Our pyjama-clad columnist Nicola took to her sofa to write about the dangers of working from home, while director/designer Alex Turvey admitted to an unlikely directorial debut involving Darth Vader, Yoda and stop frame animation.

Michael Howcroft, the resident director of Spamalot gave us his tips on fighting the fear and Joe Hooper interviewed Libby Brodie about fighting the cuts with Theatre Uncut.

Finally, the IdeasTap team spent Thursday night watching the wonderful five-minute films by the winners of last year’s IdeasFund Shorts. If you fancy a go yourself, the brief is closing soon, so don’t dilly dally on the way.

Cuts, columns and celebrations; another cracking week at the ‘Tap.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
