Vault is a brand new performing arts festival run by the team behind the very first Coming Up. From 9 to 26 February, The Old Vic Tunnels will be full of the weird and wonderful - you can book tickets now. Here’s a quick run-down on what you can expect to see…
Silent Opera
Futures Fund-winning creative Daisy Evans’ Silent Opera kind of stole the show when it debuted Dido & Aeneas at Coming Up last year. Now, her company is back with their own take on Puccini’s La bohème. Jaws on the floor all round, then… More info.
Kindle Theatre
This Birmingham-based theatre company were at the first Coming Up festival in 2011 with their production Eat Your Heart Out. They’ve now returned and are honouring the heavy metal heritage of their hometown through a retelling of the Ancient Greek tale of Clytemnestra. If you find that hard to visualise, then you’d better get down the Tunnels. More info.
Hammer
The legendary film studio Hammer, a bit like Frankenstein’s monster, has now come to life (again!) and is screening some of the classic horror flicks from its archive. More info.
The B-Movie Ball
All sorts of weird and wonderful things await you at the B Movie Ball – magicians, tarot readings, dancers, you name it. Revellers are also encouraged to dress up. Last year a man came as a tube of man-eating toothpaste. Make of that what you will. More info.
Itchy Feet
Who doesn’t like old stuff? It’s all the rage, it’s where the cool kids are – so you’ll be there, right? Itchy Feet is a big dance party, featuring all kinds of music, from soul to blues to good ol’ rock ’n’ roll and everything in between. More info.
Woodburner
Glaswegian folk band Bard is launching its new album. They’re a real folk band; they make Mumford & Sons look like Pitbull – cut them and they bleed folk. They will be joined by up-and-coming whipper snappers Kidnap Alice and Cocos Lovers. Words like “raucous” have been used to describe what this night will be like. More info.
Punt
Who doesn’t like a good pun, eh? No one, that’s who. Relax, put your feet up, and enjoy a Sunday afternoon full of verbal monkeyshine and horseplay. Imagine Just a Minute but, you know, in front of you. More info.
Nabokov Theatre
Politi-theatre kings present a night of new plays all about the money, bunce, benjamins, etc. Playwrights include Jessica Hynes and James Graham. More info.
This is all but the tip of the iceberg, head to the Vault website to book tickets and for full details.
