By NellFrizzellIdeasTap 05/04/12

How would you like to be part of one of the most exciting and well-respected new talent showcases in the industry? Do you want to collaborate with some of the best emerging US and UK theatre talent? Are you ambitious enough to take on the challenge of creating a play in under six weeks? Then read on…

This year Old Vic New Voices will complete a three-year search to discover the very best American and British talent with a showcase of new, full-length American plays written by US-based playwrights presented in London by UK-based actors, directors and producers. The opportunity is a little different this year, so for all the details of what we’re offering, make sure you read What We’re Offering PDF

The UK Actors brief is now closed.

The UK Producers and Directors brief is now closed.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a producer and director team (one of each) to bring each of the five chosen plays to life.

We are also looking for a cast of actors, aged 18+ to perform each play.

The plays will be performed in London from Monday 2 July to Friday 6 July. There will be one performance per night and we are hoping that each of the plays will go on to have a life after the showcase.

What are the plays?

We have chosen five new, full-length plays by US-based playwrights. Click on the links to download a synopsis, character breakdown and extract for each play.

A Kid Like Jake

She Rode Horses Like the Stock Exchange

The Rubber Room

The Bird and the Two Ton Weight

Dead Pile

How do you apply?

Producers and Directors will have to apply as a team, with one of you uploading the application from your profile. It doesn’t matter which of you does it.

To apply you must complete the application form, including a CV for both team members; a first, second and third choices of play you want to work on, and a statement for each choice. Don’t worry – there is a step-by-step guide to doing this on the How to Respond tab of the brief.

Actors will apply as individuals, uploading the application from your own profile.

To apply you must complete the application form, including a photo of you (no bigger than 1MB), any training you’ve completed and details of previous acting experience. You may apply for up to five parts, but please only select roles that you think you are suitable for. Don’t worry – there is a step-by-step guide to doing this on the How to Respond tab of the brief.

What happens if you are successful?

Shortlisted actors will be required to attend an audition morning or afternoon during the period between Thursday 10 May and Friday 18 May 2012. You should prepare a modern day audition monologue performed in an American accent.

If you are selected, remember: this is a professional paid engagement for six days during the period Monday 25 June to Friday 6 July 2012. You will be contracted to attend all rehearsals, (including technical and dress rehearsals) and the performance during this period.

Shortlisted director and producer teams will be required to attend an interview to pitch their ideas to a panel on Monday 30 April to Friday 4 May. If successful you will then be required to support the casting of the plays and liaise with the US writer during the rehearsal process. The writer will be flown into London for the week of the showcase.

Please note, if selected, this is a professional paid engagement for one day during the period 10 May – 18 May 2012 and six days during the period from Monday 25 June – Friday 6 July 2012. You will be contracted to attend all rehearsals, (including technical and dress rehearsals) and the performance during this period.
