Have no fear – Vicky Creevey and Will Davies from IdeasTap’s The Spa have announced a new events programme for 2012 that is set to give you the edge…
Breaking your new year’s resolutions has become as big a cliché as making them.
Fortunately IdeasTap’s events programme, The Spa, will propel you into 2012 with all the guidance you need to amp up your career. Our new term – organised by our Education Marketing Officer, Vicky Creevey, and Events & Talks Programme Manager, Will Davies (pictured below) – will be crammed full of free events that aim to help you gain new skills and knowledge, whatever your creative discipline.
Since it began last year, The Spa has provided engaging career advice that’s tailored to a rapidly changing industry. “We work upon what we hear from the experts,” explains Will. “Being creative is great but you need to take it to the next level.” This flexible approach to artistic development has been met with hearty praise, with IdeasTap member Makenna Guyler describing her time at The Spa as “a helpful experience” where she “learned where to focus [her] energy”. Fellow member Heather May exclaimed that our audition preparation resources are “invaluable for young performers!” Her lovely (free!) professional photos are now proudly displayed in her IdeasTap portfolio.
Fuelled by last year’s success, and in response to the demands of our members, this year’s Spa programme delivers a season that will help you enhance your existing skills. These sessions are designed with you – yes, you – in mind and target the small, practical details that will help you boost your presence and power within your field.

18 January, 10.30am-5.30pm
CV and Headshot Clinic
Will Davies and IdeasTap Editor James Hopkirk will be offering one-on-one guidance sessions for those thinking of a career in acting or journalism, respectively. These consultations are designed to ensure your headshot or CV are enough to land you that first meeting.
For: Actors, journalists and anyone who’s concerned about how they look on paper.
25 January, 4-5pm
Actor Agent Q&A
Agents have a huge influence on the performances we see, but we don’t often get to see these mysterious creatures in the flesh. On 25 January, IdeasTap will expose top acting agents James Penford and Kevin Brady to questions from 40 of our members.
For: Actors who want to learn how to make a good impression, agents in the making, producers or directors.
31 January, 10am-5pm
Spa Headshot Parlour
Do whatever you need to do with slices of cucumber and Monticelli mud now – on the last day of January, we’ll be inviting 24 of our members into a professional studio for completely free headshots.
For: Any IdeasTap member who would benefit from a portrait, but finds the usual high fees a barrier.

Filmmaking on a shoestring
Creative Space Brief winners BytesCorp are all set to host a myth-shattering Spa event. Bring your smartphone, laptop or digital camera and capture the moment where the belief that expensive equipment is necessary for a good film is brilliantly shattered.
For: Actors, directors, writers and producers.
