Theatre Ninjas tell us about the iPhone app that will get you into Fringe shows for free...

The Theatre Ninjas team are heading to Edinburgh Fringe Festival with their brand new iPhone app, which allows theatre producers to offer free last-minute tickets to shows.

The Theatre Ninjas app and partner website (available to non-iPhone users) was conceived by a group of 10 young actors, directors, writers and producers and was funded by a £1,000 grant from IdeasTap.

Its existence began as a conversation about sharing free theatre tickets from different sources, including press tickets, unwanted returns and special offers.

Producer Edward Stambollouian said: “As young people wanting to go to the theatre as much as possible, and not having the cash to do it, but also with experience of acting to empty houses, we created the scheme to tackle both these issues.”

The app incorporates show listings, details of tickets available, images of show posters, Google Maps links to the venue and the ability to browse Twitter reviews of the available shows.

Co-producer Caitlin Albery Beavan said: “Launching was exciting and terrifying. It has been a long journey refining and creating the app and website, but now we have to put it all into practice. Working in Edinburgh will bring the whole project together.”

Edward added: “This year at Edinburgh is about launching the scheme and the identity. The app is free to download and the scheme is free for producers to register. We won’t be making any money.”
