Wellbeing Winner: The Lifestyle Challenge

Wellbeing Winner: The Lifestyle Challenge

By Tom Seymour 14/09/11

The Wellbeing Fund was a competitive affair, but Brett Stephen Smith won us over with his innovative use of IdeasTap to launch The Lifestyle Challenge, a four-month health race as proven through IdeasTap activity points –with a £600 winning prize. He explains his vision to IdeasMag before it goes live tomorrow…

Brett’s Lifestyle Challenge will help anyone involved to kick those bad habits – it’s an incentive-based race to get fit, eat well and take care of your body.

The Lifestyle Challenge is task-based, and every time a task is completed, activity points are earned.

As proof, a photograph of the completed task needs to be uploaded to your IdeasTap portfolio. Brett has designed a list of 14 different healthy activities to earn points, which will be unveiled at the start of the challenge at midday, Thursday 15 September.

Brett says: “IdeasTap is very points based, and it’s convenient that you have to upload stuff to [the site]. I saw a lot of ideas for Wellbeing that were a one-off event, but if you really wanted to make a difference and help people that had built up bad habits, it had to be over a course of time, so I thought the way to do that would be to have a series of events.

“There needed to be incentive, and everyone in the IdeasTap community needs money, so an award of a cash prize is as good a reason as any for them to get out of bed and go for a run.

“I’ve developed a list of 14 different actions that each earn a certain number of points, and every time someone does an action I’ve made it easy for them to upload their proof on the site.

“The minimum target for anyone getting involved in the race is 600 points – that’s the requirement. I tried to be quite creative with the action list. I narrowed it down to 14 points to try and make it as easy as possible, and you really don’t have to do that much to get those 600 points, and once you’re over that mark it’s anyone’s game.

“We’ve got a group on IdeasTap and there are 100 members already. I’m really hoping people get creative with it and some humour comes out of it.

“I’ve lined up an amazing yoga trainer and personal instructor, so as part of the Lifestyle Challenge point system I’ll be holding workout days for free. That’s going to dangle loads of points in front of people.

“The list goes live tomorrow. I think it’s going to be huge, and I’m really hopeful that as many people as possible will join in.”
