Developed by Rebecca Ashton 3 years ago it has become extremly popular in Medway and the company has recently been awarded funding to expand the programme through teacher training and free taster sessions to reach a wider area of Kent. About me

After leaving The University of Surrey with a BA (Hons) in Dance Culture I worked as a freelancer in dance administration and education in Guildford for a year. I then moved to Rochester, Kent and wanted to do the same. I'd always had the idea of setting up my own dance school, but also wanted to help other community artists find work so I worked out my business model and went to The Prince's Trust. The Right Step has now been running since 2010. I link organisations with dance ideas to dance teachers, run dance events and lead Cross-curricular dance CPD for primary school teachers. I'm proud to not only have found myself work, but also have plenty for other local dance teachers too!

  • The Right Step needs a COSTUME DESIGNER for a commission application. If successful this will be a paid position with local choreographer, Lorraine Smith. You will design and make three costumes that explore the ideas of ropes, Sirens and connections for a site specific performance in Chatham with the help of a local sewing group and two young designers who will be your mentees.

    These are costumes for performance, but they will be designed before the dance is choreographed. The costumes will inform, direct and instruct the dance.
