About me

Shane Dempsey runs Fragments, an International Ensemble of theatre & video artists, FRAGMENTS.IE His work has been staged in Ireland, London, Scotland and Belgium. In 2008 he filmed the groundbreaking documentary ‘Mothers Of Modern Ireland’ which is due for release in 2011. His production of ‘The Bay’ toured extensively in 2009 and he is currently preparing to stage a new adaptation by Hannah Burke of Mikhail Bulgakov’s ‘The Master & Margarita’. He has strong Russian connections and was invited to observe rehearsals by Lev Dodine of TheMaly Theatre of St Petersburg in Paris, November 2009. He was a participantof The Next Stage 2009 run by The Abbey and Dublin Theatre Festival and participated in workshops with Declan Donnellan,Cheek By Jowl, LloydNewson DV8 and Ruth Little, Royal Court. He has worked as an assistant director at Soho Theatreand The Tricycle. He is a guest director at E15 acting school where he studied his MA. He is Artistic director of Stagecraft, Ireland, stagecraftyt.com one of Irelands most innovative and vibrant young peoples theatres. Shane is an associate artist at LoNYLa.com and an associate director with Golden Delilah.

  • Hi, I run a monthly Scratch night at Hackney Attic (above Hackney Picturehouse) We have 10 minute slots available for October and November if you have any new work you would like to show. The audience are invited to give anonymous feedback if you would like to know how people feel about your work but otherwise it's just a way to showcase it.     Please have a look at our page and join us if you would like to be involved in our collective - we are currently applying for the groups fund and need a couple more people to join our group so that we are eligible.

    To become a member of The Change Collective you must be either an artists working in social change, an activist who uses creative approaches to social change or a graduate with a related degree.

    As a member you will gain access to:

    An extensive network or artists/facilitators working in social development
    Free and concessionary-rate training run by The Change Collective in a range of creative approaches to development
    Skill-share and Best-practice Groups who will support you in your own professional development in social change.
    Assistance with project development including help with accessing funding streams and gaining support with project management.

    Through regular members meetings, you'll be encouraged to:

    Explore social issues of concern and raise public awareness of these issues
    Collaborate with other members to devise and perform innovative works of art/ artistic actions to affect social change
    Develop national and international development projects

    Membership is by application only. Membership is free.

  • I was wondering, what's the process of application for a director's course, is it much more competitive, what's the course like? How do they try and get you into employment, and how many people end up employed? I'm thinking of doing a postgrad in directing after a degree in English and Latin Lit.
