It was late morning, and six of us were sat around a table on a rooftop in southern Greece. The heat might have been uncomfortable, if not for the cool breeze coming in from the coast. We had taken a long time getting up, and while we did have things to do, they could wait. In Nafplio, life doesn’t follow a nine-to-five routine. The night before we had walked down to the town square to cut loose and have a few drinks. We were surprised to see half a dozen children still running around, and plenty of shops open. The bars in town were pricey, but good. In Athens we'd been served Amstel or Mythos at union bar prices, or lower. Here they weren’t so gentle. Nafplio is aimed at island hoppers, and while we never went down to the front, I’m sure we would have seen more than a few yachts there. The hole we patronised for most of our stay sold beers by the bottle for €4 a throw, but they had good music and a foosball table and every now and then the landlord would give us a round on the house.
