A group of 4 friends from Canada, lead by singer songwriter Aidan Knight, played an exquisite set as part of Communion Presents at the Sebright Arms on 16th April. The group has been collaborating as an experimental folk band since 2009 and the eclectic set was seamless. One track which stuck out for me was ‘Dream Team’ – one of their ‘more upbeat’ tracks – it successfully showcases all elements of this quartet; starting with the mellow, chilling clarity of Knight’s voice we are slowly introduced to more layers of talent from the group; with violins and haunting harmonies creating a melancholic mood with a strangely romantic air. The track then leads to a climactic and boisterous end, establishing the quartet’s excellence for creating ethereal and distinctive baroque-folk-pop. [LISTEN HERE] The most memorable song of the set, for me, was the final one. ‘Margaret Downe’ stunned the room into silence whist Aidan was left alone on stage to showcase his undeniable craft to hold an audience with his pure, untainted voice – lulling them into a peaceful state of mind.
