I am currently a student at Goldsmiths, University of London studying Theatre and Performance. I am a keen writer and hope to write and direct in the future, often finding that there is much to be said about many things and having the need to write them down and turn them in to relatable stories through theatre. Although I am yet to finish one whole play as such, I have many ideas churning around in my little red book and slowly they are starting to piece together into bits of narrative and recognisable characters. Not really one for pressuring myself into completing them any time soon, I am letting them gestate and grow into their own stories over time. Hopefully once one is finished, I will find it easier to complete others! As well as this I am also a performer and take great pleasure in doing as much as I possibly can, while I can. Whether its a short film, a script reading, a comedy at the Edinburgh fringe or a play in a small London theatre or even a pub, if it is interesting or funny, sad or experimental, I will be there! I enjoy working with new people although I soon find myself working with individuals or groups of people numerously over time which I hope to take as a sign that I am fun and generous to work with as well as being satisfactorily good enough to be asked to return. I think that theatre and film are hugely important and influential parts of our society and culture. In particular, theatre and live performance, I believe have tremendous power to comment on and challenge peoples' understanding and approach to society. That is not to say that I think it should be theatre's place to purposefully and actively seek to achieve this In fact I do not think it is any theatre-maker, director, writer, actor or any artist's place to do so but that this is the inevitable outcome of any good piece of theatre. To instigate a change in an audience's perceptions, be it a small fact that they were previously unaware of or an enormous change in their political or social ideals, I believe that theatre has the power to communicate and relate ideas and beliefs by exposing an audience to them in a visceral and powerful way. May I reinforce, however, my belief that it should never be the aim of a piece of theatre to do this, only to deliver a piece that allows the subjective experiences of individual audience members to take from it what they will.
