The idea for the work arose after listening to Britten’s Nocturne. I realised that I used to listen to the work regularly on CD whilst in the bath, so I got the idea of listening to the music underneath water. I explore this idea throughout the piece in a number of ways. The harmony is derived from some of the chords Britten used in the Nocturne. The solo violin part was inspired, written for, and performed by David Le Page. Commissioned by Orchestra of the Swan with funds from Arts Council England. First performed 13th November 2012.

The piece was composed at the first Creative Music Week for members of the NYOS. The piece is dedicated to Jamie.
