After completing my training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and then at Newcastle College, I have worked both as a dancer and a choreographer across the UK.

Following this, I set up Gary Rowntree | Dance in 2009 which is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. My role as Creative Director has allowed me to accomplish a broad range of projects. I find that previous projects such as my research and development have allowed me to grow artistically which has resulted in a new range of projects and work.

Exploration in dance is something I find very interesting and I find mixing things up a little helps encourage and develop my creative vision. This is done through collaboration with other artists or playing with technical resources that could affect what is produced in the studio.

Other areas that interest me are in developing youth dance and the creative development in young dancers. I have guest lectured to the dance and performing arts departments at Newcastle College and at St Louise's specialist arts college.
