Figs in Wigs are an all female, five strong performance company who make work that is a unique mix of theatre, dance and comedy. We use puns, fake fruit, and pop culture references to create shows that are refreshingly surreal, absurdly comic and always aware of their own theatricality. Our work usually takes the form of live performance and often uses humour and surrealism as a means of unpacking larger socio-political issues with a particular focus on gender, performance theory and trash.

Figs in Wigs formed in 2010 and have since been developing a reputation as an exciting and innovative young company amongst theatre, cabaret and live art audiences alike. They have performed at established UK venues including The Roundhouse, The BFI, Royal Vauxhall Tavern, The Basement Brighton, and The New Wolsey Ipswich. They have commissioned work for and collaborated with artists such as Bryony Kimmings, Scottee, Brian Lobel, Duckie and Lois Weaver. They are winners of the Roundhouse Show Slam! 2012 in conjunction with IdeasTap, were part of SPILL National Platform 2012, runners up for The Suitcase prize at Pulse 2013 and were supported by Cambridge Junction as part of Escalator Performing Arts 2012/13. Their last show, We Object, a dadaist comedy about feminism, was chosen as The Times Critics Choice for Dance and Physical Theatre, as well as Time Out's Pick of Edinburgh Fringe 2013. Last year they were supported by Escalator East to Edinburgh 2014 for their production Show Off, which explores the performance of narcissism in the digital age. Show Off was nominated for a Total Theatre Award and an Arches Brick Award and will tour the UK in Spring 2015.
