We are you not so humble beginning, thundering into life with anxious rupture - our sky stitched by puppeteers, wisps of string puncturing the magic of suspensions. Pilgrims are swift to forget the start for the finish, but round here we remember. We are outside-inners, smiling-uppersm waving planes on adventures as you forget the runway, the tin can slingers shooting you into photographs, shared over tea at Mum's. The Waiting Room

You squint from the window, imagine the world you were so prepared to leave. There is a donkey as fat as a hippe, alone in a field, flirting with strangers for lost pocket mints. Children whisper of the poacher's wife, the dangers lurkiing in Mad Bess Woods, as engines quiver into heartbeats, canal boats rippling the quiet between flights. Somewhere a driver begins the boozy bus dance home, wriggling through traffic, whilst blurred eyes decipher timetables to the edge. You were here, pregnant with greener grasses, unaware this is not the waiting room, but the all clear to begin a weightless life with nothing to declare.

About me

My name is Emily Kate Groves and I am a poet, spoken word artist and producer. I graduated with a first class degree in English and Creative Writing from The University of Warwick in 2012 and have since worked on a number of exciting projects which include:

- BBC Workplace (Researcher)
- Language Centre Publications (Educational Editor)
- Southbank Centre (Young Producer for Poetry Parnassus)
- Jaybird Live Literature & Southbank (London Lines - London Borough of Hillingdon 2013)
- Poejazzi.com (Staff Writer)
- Battersea Arts Centre (Heritage Producing Assistant)
- Off By Heart (Schools Poetry Competition Judge)

Poetry has been a companion of mine throughout life. My first success as a poet was winning The Sunday Telegraph Poetry and Rose Theatre for Performance Competition in 2008, as judged by poet laureate Andrew Motion. The nature of my degree means I have had vast experience of work-shopping and editing both poetry and prose, and essays and articles. Beyond my studies, I dedicated my spare time to various creative projects and pursuits, from performing and writing for Warwick Student Arts Festival, to being published in a number of student publications. In my first year of study I helped to establish and run Beats and Bars, a popular open-mic night promoting spoken word and new music in the West Midlands. My role included the booking of artists and venues, maintaining communications in the lead up to events, and designing and distributing our marketing materials. We have grown so popular that we have been endorsed by Apples and Snakes, England's leading organisation for performance poetry.

My love of poetry is resolute and I am dedicated to having a career inspiring and educating the world about it's importance. Poets were once the rockstars of the cultural scene, and I believe they can be again, that there is an appetite for the deliciously scandalous Byrons, Wildes and Bukowskis of this world. We must build upon this legacy, before poetry erodes into the dust ridden archives of history. I believe poetry is undergoing a revolution of sorts, especially with the current fever surrounding spoken word, and I want to be part of that revolution.
