About me

Eleanor Cartwright is a recent Fine Art graduate from The Arts University College at Bournemouth.

During her study Eleanor was highly influenced by artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Jim Lambie, she was drawn to the excitement of creating installation work that could occupy a whole interior space, making it possible to physically enter a piece of work and become surrounded by it, as if enclosed within an imaginative environment, to feel detached from reality.

Eleanor’s desire to work with space led her to study Interior Design during her Fine Art Degree, where she discovered her passion for designing surface pattern prints for interiors, wallpapers and furnishing fabrics as well as ceramic vessels, tiles and lighting.

Eleanor finds it especially rewarding for her prints to be applied to functional objects, and she would like her designs to inject colour and vitality into interior spaces, to be used, enjoyed and appreciated.

Eleanor is a very driven, committed and enthusiastic individual with a continual admiration for pattern, colour and design.

Her current work is influenced by the floral and fauna motifs used by William Morris during the Arts and Crafts movement, as well as the bold geometrics used throughout the Op Art movement, particularly for their confusing and distorting visual effects.

Taking inspiration from the contrasts that arise when soft floral motifs are mixed with bold geometrics, Eleanor is interested in the different visual and psychological effects that can be created by pattern designs and how they can be used to transform and manipulate an interior space.

Eleanor is currently building on the textile sculptures she made during her Fine Art Degree by developing ranges of textile print designs, which she then plans to apply to her sculptural works. Eleanor intends to make work that will be a mix between something sculptural and something functional, to be used in an interior or an exterior setting. Aspiring to make quirky and unique interior products that will enhance the spaces in which we live.
