DAY SIX - The Final Fling

16/05/11 at 13:21 — edited 16/05/11 at 15:31

It's party time in New York for the TS Eliot US/UK Exchange team - Dan Baker reports back...

Okay, tonight was the 'Final Fling' party. I'm allowed to have had a late night.

Today was pretty slow, fortunately; after such a crazy day yesterday, I took advantage of the opportunity to have a bit of a rest in the morning before indulging in some more touristy activities. So, today I had a nice walk around New York.

First on my list of places to visit was the site of the World Trade Centres. Having flown to New York out on the day it was announced Osama Bin Laden had been killed, it was strange to visit the site - and having seen all the images on television, I thought it important to see the site to get a true sense of just how big the buildings were. It's safe to say it's mindblowing just how big a gap there is, and to imagine the sheer horror and devastation of experiencing it all happening at close quarters.  From there I walked around the financial district to see Wall Street, and checked out the view from the Brooklyn Bridge, before heading back Uptown and taking some snaps of Grand Central Station, the Empire State Building and the like.

Grand Central Station

Eventually the sightseeing was done, and I met up with fellow UK producers Vicky, Harriet and Katie - plus US producers Alex and Melanie - for some dinner before the party.  Having only met the New Yorkers sporadically during the week, it was nice to sit down and spend time with a couple of them to get to know them better - all in advance of the craziness which would obviously unfold at the party.

So anyway, we headed off to the party - being hosted at the apartment of New York producer Adam.  Now, if any of us has an place like it in London I'd be surprised - the apartment is effectively a small nightclub masquerading as a place of residence - but it's certainly set the bar for the party we host for the New Yorkers!  The party was great fun, and with a number of the New Yorkers in attendance we had the best chance yet to get to know some of them over a few drinks - and of course, we all had a bit of a boogie too!  I'm not quite sure if Adam regrets hosting us, though - us Brits tend to party pretty hard, and I'm not sure if he was ready for that..!

After we finally left the party, it was time to attempt the journey home - the Metro was not a good idea it was decided, so producer Vicky, actor Slinky and I wandered the streets until finding a cab and made our way home after another late night...
