MGEITF Day 2: As crossposted on my secret emo LiveJournal

28/08/10 at 21:51

Rather bad news, I'm afraid: After wrapping-up the last three posts, it was decided with mutual agreement that I should head home. In other words, I cried like an idiot and proven them right to do so.

I am obviously annoyed with this. After all, I will now not be able to sit in on the Eastenders and Doctor Who Masterclasses, the "totally revelatory and enriching, and not at all reheating what we've heard on OK! and ITV2 millions of times" Katie Price edition of Shrink Wrap and join in the celebratory meals and cocktail evenings.

Most importantly, it's made me realise most of my limitations in being a media professional. I found it really hard to get organised, finding good lunch venues and bus routes, and this caused yesterday's lunchtime meltdown. Also, I found it really daunting making conversation with the delegates around me and I couldn't make myself noticed amongst the hubbub of voices and tinkling wine glasses. I've realised that being a successful writer is associated so much with being confident in speaking to other people.

In short, I'll never succeed in the media.

I'm in Glasgow now, and I'm avoiding tonight's X Factor. I've had enough delusion and hysterics for one evening.
