For the first life drawing session of the term we chose a theme we thought would appeal to many people and indeed it did - altogether there was 60 people in one room drawing the myth of Icarus! I believe this might the best turnout for life drawing in a couple of years. We also kept it for free (we charge £3 per session for non-members and £2 for members; we provide all the materials) to make sure that people who may not believe in their drawing skills will want to come and give it a go. I think we may use the same approach at the beginning of spring term, simply to encourage people to join us and persuade them that we provide a welcoming and non-judgemental environment for life drawing. Wings were handmade by my friend and committee member Georgie and took two people to transport to campus! I thought they were spectacular. In regards to poses, we had the model do four 10-minute long sustained poses, starting with Icarus flying towards the sun, followed by him falling (2 different poses, one of them is pictured above) and having fallen into the sea.
