Adam Lowe is a writer, publisher, producer and live artist from Leeds but now resident in Manchester. He is one of the 12 Poets for 2012, a project organised by The National Lottery and Winning Words to find one poet from every region to represent a 'Team GB' for poetry. Adam represents the Yorkshire region and contributed to the creation of an Olympic poem, 'Breathe', which was exhibited in the Olympic Park.
In 2008, his magazine, Polluto, was awarded the Spectrum Fantastic Art Silver Editorial Award. In 2009 he received four Lambda Award nominations, in both poetry and prose, and three British Fantasy Award nominations for works that he published. He was a 2011 finalist for the Eric Hoffer Award in Best New Writing. In 2012 he was a reader nomination for the Guardian First Book Prize and won a Community History Award.
Adam is particularly involved in the intersections between literature and other artforms, including art, graphic design, multimedia and performance. He curates, develops and produces arts and cultural projects with a focus on storytelling, from poetry slams to creative writing festivals to site-specific performances that respond to historic locations.
He was one of the 2010 young writers in residence at the I Love West Leeds Arts Festival.
In 2011 he was attached to a young writers’ group at West Yorkshire Playhouse, and his BBC-commissioned short play Deep Blue Skin will be showcased there in March. He was commissioned to lead an Olympics-funded youth writing project for Barnsley museums, which culminated in written, filmic and audio responses to the collections at Wentworth Castle and Cannon Hall. He was also commissioned to write a classical lieder, with Nikki Franklin, for the Poets+Composers Forum at Leeds Lieder+ music festival. He has had commissions by the Royal Exchange and Zion Arts Centre, and was producer for a vast site-specific live literature/multimedia/performance art project in Leeds Kirkgate Market, commissioned as part of imove (London 2012) and funded by The Legacy Trust UK and Arts Council England's Grants for the Arts.
He also writes for Bent, where he writes a column as his semi-fictitious alter ego Beyonce Holes, and works in the marketing department at Peepal Tree Press.
Adam is a graduate of Street Voices 2 and an active member of Young Inscribe, housed by Peepal Tree Press. In the past he has been a part of Critters.org and Orson Scott Card's Hatrack River Writers' Workshop. Adam regularly delivers workshops and runs mentoring and masterclass programmes for new writers in the North. In collaboration with Jennifer Webb, he produced Speak Up at the Grammar School at Leeds: a programme that placed writers in schools to give workshops, champion writing for the page and stage, and work towards a grand poetry slam competition. The project worked with six local primary schools and the Grammar School's upper and lower schools, developing links and sharing resources, with a shared aim of celebrating literature.
Because of his work in the region, he is a Youth Ambassador for the Cultural Olympiad in Yorkshire.
Adam's work has appeared in The Guardian, Word Riot, Unlikely Stories, The Cadaverine, Chimeraworld 5, The Leeds Guide, WAMACK, Saucytooth's, Kaleidotrope, Bent Magazine, Terror Scribes, The All-New Terror Tales, Cake Magazine, Ex Plus Ultra, Polluto, Imperial Youth Review, NALD's website, Electric Literature's The Outlet blog, The World in the Satin Bag, The Pink Paper, PoetCasting.co.uk, Yorkshire Telly and Saul William's Chorus: A Literary Mixtape.

In 2009 his debut novella, Troglodyte Rose, was released in limited edition hardback by Cadaverine Publications. An expanded novel-length paperback is due out the other side of the Mayan apocalypse from a US publisher.
He is currently a featured writer at Wattpad, where an excerpt of his forthcoming novel has had 50,000 views (as of September 2012).
