Frances Ha is romanticism of adult failures, growing up and those damned twenties: the time when we are meant to have our lives pretty much sorted out. Times have changed since our parent’s generation when a home, family and a career were all set by their late twenties. Thanks to the economic crisis, being an adult has been pushed back a few years. Now, this decade is reserved for finding yourself and self-expression through travelling and picking up hobbies such as photography or jazz/tap classes. Perhaps it is right to say that adulthood has become more of a mind-set and cannot be pin pointed at the moment you finish University. We live in a time where it is the norm to move back to your parent’s home until we “find our feet”. This confusing, frustrating, exhilarating time in our lives is so wonderfully and subtly depicted in Noah Baumbach’s last feature, Frances Ha. I should say Baumbach and Gerwig’s feature.
