Proud Londoner

I know London sometimes can be quite testing to ones patience and common sense. It is too easy to get swallowed up with the little annoying everyday challenges such as rush hour, disorientated tourists and of course the weather. So sometimes we end up in our bubble and heads down.

On second thought though it is an incredible city and what I have come to realise recently is when it really really matters - you of course can count on Londoners - very much so!

My sister came to visit me recently with her little boy aged 6 months. She arrived with a big pram which proved a nightmare and we very quickly ditched that, after having to let go three tubes and all the carrying up and down some busy and overcorwded stairs just wasn't enjoyable.

Despite the fact that to some people you may seem invisable and they point blank ignore you asking them for help - when it really mattered we had more help and fun than I actually expected. I found many people very hands on, understanding and quick to share a story. Right up there next to your shoulder, supporting.

There is an incredible amount of activities you can take up and see all across London- even with baby, some especially catering for babies - and no I don't mean just the 'changing nappies facilities'. Those we actually never really needed. It was everything else, cafes, city farms, exhebitions, arts and otherwise there was so much on offer and everyone was so welcoming and friendly towards us and the baby it took my breath away and made me very proud. It's a fun loving, active and positive crowd. Let me point out here that we did exclusively grown up stuff, but took my nephew with us anyway.

The most impressive experience was that Londoners do not shy away to speak up when they strongly believe in something, especially in a good course. We found ourselves on a very overcrowded tube once on our way back home. No one offered a seat. A stop or two later a person got on the train and immediately asked someone to get up for us and made her point very understood. How great!

We actually didn't need a seat since the baby was crying more when we sat and we had been sitting most of the day and we almost were at home. On another note the amount of feisty proactive women wanting to give a helping hand was very heart warming, too. It made me proud for them. I loved the attitude.

Another incredible thing about London is that you can rediscover it on a daily basis. There is so much change, so much activity and hussle and buzzle. At the same time you quickly can retreat to a little suare or park very easily anywhere and forget all about big cities and stress.

I am sure my nephew is already looking forward to his next visit and will be back in no time!
