At University, we looked at the idea of writing an ‘issue play’ which takes a moral stand point initially before looking at story and characters. This piece was inspired by my own struggle to get a job and my understanding that in some jobs the positions were filled by ‘attractive girls’ who were able to sell more on the till and I felt that this could work as a play. Play Extract- 'Jobless' (June 2012)

I then researched the idea of existentialism and how it could fit in with this issue of how life seems to work in a cycle and this idea led me to develop a piece where the main character, Michael, is constantly being invited to interviews, getting rejected from then and then being invited to the next issue. The play would end with him getting offered another interview and the audience believing that this play starts where it finishes every night in keeping with the styles of Beckett. Another inspiration to me was Steven Berkoff’s The Trial and the idea of having interchangeable stock characters as the employers developed from that and the non-naturalistic setting and performance.

About me

I am Peter Meredith, a 22 year old Drama and Creative Writing graduate looking to further my career in the arts. I am looking to relocate to the Greater London area. I am a very conscientious person who likes to get a job done to the best of my ability whether it is in my current working life as a wine product advisor or when I'm performing as an actor within a group.

I have enjoyed performing from a young age but where I flourished and fine tuned my skills was at University where one of my modules was a theatre school module where we learnt about the American Method. It was using this method where I could fully get into the characters I was playing and bring out their true emotions and I hope to use these skills in my future performing career. The part I found myself being able to understand the most was the autistic character of Chadwick in 'Punk Rock' it was through the animal exercise where I could develop the right characteristics and bring out the very real and emotional side of the character to life.

Aside from my university life I have performed with many drama groups in my area and have performed more diverse plays such as 'Single Spies' by Allan Bennet to the more mainstream musicals, most recently playing the part of Don in 'A Chorus Line'.

I have also been fortunate enough to have gone to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival twice as a performer, once in 2009 in 'Take off the Musical' and in 2013 as King Kong in 'King Kong the Musical'. This year I am taking a break from performing but going up as the technical manager for a new show 'Stay Awake for Now'.

After I left University I got involved with a local amateur theatre society and became a member of the publicity committee and specifically became the groups social media administrator for both their facebook and twitter pages and have loved being able to communicate with local businesses and beyond to develop good working relationships and for them to promote us further.
