My name is Oliver Davis and I'm a physical theatre actor and dancer based near Birmingham. I'm originally a northern lad, recently graduated from Warwick University where I earned a first degree in Theatre and Performance Studies so I knew the area well, but re-located here about a year ago to get involved with Whole Hog Theatre's production of Princess Mononoke. This was the world's first adaptation of the Studio Ghibli animated film, performed in London and Tokyo this year (2013), and was an amazing experience as a performer.

My passion is movement, in whatever sense of the word, and I love to fuse different styles. Traditionally trained in Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz at the North Wales School of Dancing I have tried to branch out into many other forms including capoeira, stunt fighting, puppetry and circus skills (aerial and acrobatics). Most of my performance experience is in physical theatre through adaptation and devising (for more information on my experience and training please check out my CV in my portfolio!). There's nothing I love more that getting a group together to explore possibilities through movement/contact improvisation as well as choreography. I also love site-specific performance and the juxtaposition of placing physical/dance theatre in unusual locations. Incorporating digital art and film into physical performance is also important me as I draw a lot of inspiration from companies such as Motionhouse, Frantic Assembly and Rosie Kay Dance Company.

Collaboration excites me and my aim is to eventually found my own physical theatre company based around this idea of fusion and incorporation of artists from all kinds of backgrounds. However, until this happens I am looking to gain a wider network in the area and build upon my experience so see this as an open shout out to any artist or company that would be interested in collaborating or need assistance with their current projects (I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty!).
