The gun in my hand dropped to the floor and I bawled and I bawled. The world as I knew it has ended. I used to be a fighter. But now I lay down my weapon to spend my last moments with the man I love. We met five years ago at a mutual friend’s birthday party. He was a solider working in the army and I was just a cashier girl.     I am applying for funding to create my young adult, mystery, webcomic and I am looking for a comic book writer and a comic book illustrator to help me.

    The story is about Lissa, a teenage black girl, who becomes the target of a series of pranks. She investigates with her friend Simon to find the prankster. The investigation leads them to the past and their own hidden truths. Can Lissa and Simon overcome their insecurities and reach the heart of the case?

    The story examines insecurities from the point of view of two teenagers. I want this story to encourage more people in the media, to write about ethnically diverse characters. It is also about making people aware of human complexity, and challenges the stereotypes that being black, and being a man means you are always tough.

    The illustrations and the design of the comic have to reflect the mood of the story: dark, dim, edgy, mysterious, mature. I want the illustrations to capture each characters individuality. For example, Lissa is defensive, wears an afro and a long dark coat. Simon is secretive likes to wear jackets, and has attractive features.
    The comic book writer must focus on delivering the characters emotion and the way they battle with their feelings and insecurities. The writing must be mature but easy to understand.

    The comic will be first shown online but if it gains more attention I would like to have the story printed, and turn it into an animation to enter into festivals. Budget and start and finish dates are open to discussion.
