I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order – John Burroughs. There is so much natural beauty around us and it engages all my senses: the sound of a river flowing across rocks, mist turning woodlands into a magical, mysterious place, the feel of an old oak tree’s bark. My images capture the wonder and peace I feel when I’m out in nature.

I seek the beauty that is right on our doorsteps. Most of my images are taken from the roadside or a car park; all of them fall within a ten-minute walk. I seek to show people that they don’t have to go far to find Mother Nature’s bounty. I use my art to encourage people to engage with nature in the belief that if they are engaged with what is around them, they will be more inclined to take care of it.

I'm an analogue photographer using 35mm, medium and large format. Time in the darkroom developing the negatives and printing the images is as engaging of my senses as the photography itself, my hands shaping the image I saw standing behind the camera. I work mostly in black and white, allowing the shapes, tones and textures to carry my message.
