Please look in the Groups & Portfolio sections for further information about the projects.*** ---***OPPORTUNITIES: Looking for a Company Officer and Producer/Associate Producer to come onboard with new company, Bethumped Theatre Dance. Please look in the Portfolio section for further information.*** ---I am a graduate of English Literature from Lancaster University, where I focused substantially on Shakespeare, Renaissance to Restoration writers, the Romantics and the Bronte sisters, and a postgraduate of Shakespeare and Theatre from the University of Birmingham, where I developed skills in Laban, Viewpoints, thrust stage practice, and, not least, the actor-audience relationship. Currently, I am training on a 10-week course in directing with local and international director, Tracey Street. I have expanded my professional development in theatre through taking voice, text and movement workshops with the RSC, and workshops with Movement Director Lucy Hind. Back in 2007 I achieved Grade Eight Distinction in Ballet (RAD), and have acquired the skills and knowledge of many dance forms along the way. I work for the Royal Shakespeare Company as a Front of House Assistant and Education Volunteer, whilst developing my career in movement, choreography, directing and writing (journalism and creative). At present, I am Movement Director for a devised performance, Austerity (Birmingham, 2013), with Holly Clark as Director. And I am developing the MAP Network, a Midlands-based networking initiative, as well as working on a number of performance projects (see below). Work-in-Progress:*Austerity, a devised performance (with Holly Clark)*MAP Network*Fata, a performance text of fairy tales*A Shakespeare-Middleton Production Project (please see the Group for more information)*An adaptation/interpretation of Emily Bronte's Wuthering HeightsOpportunities I am looking for:*assisting a theatre director*assisting a choreographer/movement director*collaborating with other creatives on projects/workshops/productionsSkills: Directing, assistant directing, movement, choreography, dance, physical theatre, voice and text, Laban, Viewpoints, the actor-audience relationship, thrust stage practice, early modern drama, classic works, ballet, modern dance, literature, Romantic literature, the Bronte sisters, García Lorca, creative writing, adaptation, prose fiction, arts journalism~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*Choreography-MovementOne of my primary areas of creative practice is movement and choreography. My interest and practice spans both theatre and dance, and includes a range of approaches and styles. Training at postgraduate level on Shakespeare and Theatre at the University of Birmingham has introduced and consolidated techniques and approaches such as Laban and the Viewpoints System.I am especially interested in movement, choreography and dance in a theatrical setting, both in new and classic theatre texts. I am especially focused on the way in which movement and dance can engage with dramatic texts and provide ways of developing and portraying character, ways of enriching the overall text in performance, and ways of creating a sensory experience for both performers and audiences. Understanding the body, the senses and their relationship to space forms an integral part of my thinking and practice.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~DirectingMy directing practice has developed out of movement and choreography, and experience during postgraduate study. Naturally, I seek to give physical texture and life to creative work. With much of my training and education in theatre classics, in particular Shakespeare, these play-texts form the base of my directing. I am beginning to branch out into 20th and 21st century play-texts.At the core of my directing practice are the relationships of actor and audience, of space and experience. I approach the creative process as one which places the performers at the centre of it and one which provides the performers with the freedom to form and nurture a connection with their audience. This, I hope, leads to a rich, shared experience which can have an impact upon all present. In the context of this, whilst I am happy working in a range of stage spaces, I am most at home in thrust, open and empty spaces.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~Creative WritingMy creative writing is focused on prose fiction, adaptation and playwriting. Prose Fiction - In the crudest sense, my field of prose fiction is social realism. I write first and foremost in the form of the novel. My works are concerned with both political and social realms on both British and international levels. I consider that this era lacks novelists on the scale of and with the purpose of Dickens. If I can go even a little way to re-address this, I will have achieved what I set out to.Adaptation - This relates to my interest in the dramatic potential of non-dramatic works. This may involve fully recrafting or reshaping a text for performance, or keeping a text in its complete form whilst seeking out and exploring ways of bring it to the stage. I am primarily focused on adapting literature for the stage, but also take interest in adapting for the screen too.Playwriting - The newest form writing which I have taken up. This writing is primarily political, social and concerned with the body in space. Relating to my other creative practices, I focus on writing for thrust, open and empty spaces.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~Arts JournalistI am an avid theatre-goer, a devoted reader and a lover of all things arts-related. I write reviews, musings and debate arts topics over at my blog, and in the past have written for such websites as A Younger Theatre. Placing myself in the position of reviewer and journalist allows me to keep perspective on the nature of the creative world and my own practice.
