About me

James Fisher is an emerging filmmaker who comes from a fine art background and discovered filmmaking whist studying at Chelsea College of Art. He graduated with a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design majoring in film and then completed a three year BA(Hons) Film & Television degree at the Skillset Screen Academy London College of Communication, part of the University of Arts London. A documentary film he directed on the course won the MTV 'Show Us What You’re Made of' Award in February 2009. At university he was lucky to study under Jack Garfein, director and teacher for the original Actors Studio, who taught him how to act and how to interpret a script.

As part of his degree he trained on the Guild of British Camera Technicians 35mm and HD course, which helped him learn his craft. After university James reached the final twelve out of hundreds of applicants in the Film London/Tri Borough film scheme ‘New Pathways’. Showing a great work ethic on the course, the Executive Producer suggested he should produce the funded film ‘Borderland’ which he also worked as Director of Photography. This film went on to be premiered at the East End Film festival but missed out narrowly for a Film London ‘Best of Boroughs’ film nomination.

James has worked as a Director of Photography on numerous shorts and in 2011 he worked as Director of Photography on the feature length horror anthology ‘Three’s a Shroud’ which won awards at various film festivals in 2012. He also took part in the East Meets East film workshop, a joint initiative from the Romanian Cultural Institute and Four Corners centre, for young aspiring filmmakers from the Olympic Boroughs. The course was mentored by leading professionals from the Romanian New Wave who helped guide with the filmmaking process. James’s role was Director of Photography on the two drama projects and these films were screened as part of the East End Film Festival. His great work and professionalism on the course paid off and he was invited by Four Corners to take part in their latest training programme ‘3D for camera professionals’.

Last year James was selected to write, produce and direct one of the nine funded films Worldwide for House Shorts 2012 in association with Soho House, BAFTA, The Hollywood Reporter and Bombay Sapphire. The title of the film is ‘Moment of Clarity.’ It had online and theatrical distribution for a year (The Electric Cinema and The Aubin Cinema) and was also shown at the Dingle International Film Festival 2013 (Ireland), The British Horror Film Festival 2013 (Empire Leicester Square) and the Freaked Out Film Festival 2013 (Poland.) Most recently he was selected as a delegate for ‘The Network’ (TVYP) where he attended masterclasses and workshops from leading industry professionals including Kevin Spacey and Vince Gilligan. James also started his own indie film production company Reel Fiction which specialises in short film production.

  • Hi James, thanks for the connection. I've only just started working with video myself, more of a stills background. Looking forward to finding inspiration to keep learning from your work. :-)

  • Hi James, I'd be very interested to have a look at Borderland which sounds fantastic and well done on the EEF selection.

Any chance of seeing a trailer or something online?
