  • I have a problem!

    29/07/10 at 21:52

I have a problem. When I take on a job, I become so wrapped up in doing the job well that I morph into a stereotype and an over the top characterisation of myself. It’s weird I know! For example, I was a receptionist for two years and that’s when I first noticed my little problem. Maybe it was the phone ringing every thirty seconds that pushed me over the edge. Perhaps it was every single person that walked through the door asking where they should sign their name (whilst pointing to the sign in book) and what the date is (even when I had filled in the date for them!). But suddenly I say a chance in myself. My fashion sense had changed: I became addicted to stalking eBay for unwanted Lipsy dresses. I even made up that one of the PA’s was my arch enemy and would stop my work and give her evils every time that she walked past (she did it to me too). I even found myself putting on this imaginary mask of a bitchy spoilt brat, American teenager that belonged strutting arou…
  • Fucking Actors

    22/06/10 at 11:35

I recently went for a drink with a award winning director that I have known for some time. He is truely very talented and I have a great respect for him. Secretly, I admit, every time that we meet I am hoping that he's gonna say 'Ive got a film coming up and Id like you to play the lead.' Why not? Hes a great director, Im a great actor, it makes sense! This time I thought, this is it! I've grown as an actor, I've just finished my first led role, hes definately gonna ask me this time. Half an hour into the conversation I thought 'hmmmm nothings been mentioned yet, maybe I should give him a nudge in the right direction.'  About to slip it in to the conversation I come out of my own thoughts and begin listening again to what he's saying. "The only people that I meet at these festivals are fucking actors! Always fucking actors.".........fucking actors? Oh shit! Am I a fucking actor.

Usually if something or someone is making you upset or angry, a great way of dealing with it is to write it down in a diary. By doing this you can read it back from an outsiders point of view and see that things arent actually so bad after all. I of course took this to extremes and decided to make a film out of what was making me upset (but mostly very angry). If Im honest it worked! Not only do I not give a shit about what prompted me to write the film, I now think I might have a mini master piece on my hands.
