About me

Edward Smyth (Ed) is an award-winning 19 year-old British filmmaker, specialising in Directing, Writing & Cinematography.

His A-Level short film, 'Lost Pleasures', was recently selected for the BAFTA-qualifying London Short Film Festival 2015, and has screened at several other UK festivals.

At 17, he secured funding for his previous project, 'Peculiar Tales', from IdeasTap, before organising and hosting a premiere at Cineworld, showcasing his films and the work of fellow upcoming filmmakers from his local area.

Previously, he worked in a similar role as Curator of Short Films for the Rochester Picture Palace, where he selected material from young filmmakers to play before feature films every week.

In the press, he's been described by Kent, Sussex & Surrey Life as 'One To Watch' (Sept. '14), and was recently interviewed for a six page feature in Digital Filmmaker Magazine (Apr. '14).

He was also a student of two BFI Film Academies (working alongside Screen South, CTVC and The Grierson Trust), four filmmaking courses with Viola Films, and is a 4Talent alumni.
