With a mixture of interest and intrigue, I decided to find out more about this mysterious character on behalf of The Exeter Daily . Dean Elliott was born and raised in Exeter; although he left the area to briefly spend time in London, and to study at Royal Holloway University, where he received a first in Drama and Theatre Studies, he is keen to stay in Exeter and develop his craft in the city. Dean has played a variety of roles during his performing career but his skills particularly lie in the art of clowning and physical comedy. He has also undertaken training in improvisation with the likes of Aitor Basauri of Spymonkey and Lee Simpson of Improbable. My debut Solo Show, first performed at The Hour Glass as part of Exeter's Ignite festival to a very favourable audience reception. The Show returned for a 6 night run in August 2013. Performance Review by Kate Wilson for Wildfire Blank Dean Elliott 6.45, The Hourglass, Friday 7th June Dean Elliott enters the performance space, summoning applause from his audience. It is only as he sits down at his desk that we realise this is a mime act, with only sighs and noises to accompany this brave one man show. Mundane actions such as adjusting his wobbly table and laying out paper are hilariously perceptive, as Elliott mocks the procrastinating writer. This act is maintained for some time, as he struggles to find the right piece of paper, the right pen, and his inspiration. I felt the performance losing pace, just as he changed tactics, at once the aspiring actor about to deliver a soliloquy, and then again, the final transformation to a painter trying to paint.
