Born and raised in a small town in the north east of England, I have always had a great love for my surroundings, family, and my community. From a very young age I’ve been fortunate to travel, and in doing so, experienced many different cultures, seen diverse places and expanded on my understanding of the world. These experiences have had a substantial influence on my development both personally and professionally. It’s allowed me to understand and approach situations with a greater depth and sensitivity. This is particularly important when I have been working on documentary projects, and current affairs, where developing a rapport quickly with a person is incredibly important for interviews.
I’ve been heavily involved in sport ever since I was a child: competing in athletics for Durham County, and playing rugby at county and national level. I was also signed to a premiership rugby club between the ages of 17 and 19. In order for me to attain these accomplishments, it required my full dedication, motivation and endurance throughout, whilst also being able to adapt fast and efficiently to different team dynamics. I feel this puts me in a position to deal with a wide array of working environments such working in a team, dealing with clients, and pushing through to achieving a desired goal.
When I was 19, I attended East 15 Acting School to do a BA (HONS) in Acting and Contemporary theatre. The course was high intensity, and each project brought up new and exciting challenges.
Throughout the course, I directed, devised, researched and performed in many shows. Research was incredibly important throughout, and this allowed me to hone in on my skills to find relevant information required in a short space of time. When it comes to research and completing tasks efficiently and to a high standard, the lessons I have learnt at drama school have been invaluable.
Upon leaving, I have experienced the industry from both, in front and behind the lens of the camera. From leaving a place with a fixed structure, I quickly had to adapt to an environment where I would have to form my own structure. I bought a camera, continued to write TV scripts, short films, write articles, practiced photography and interned at an established Production Company in London. I have also managed to have one of my TV scripts filmed for a TV pilot, and have travelled to Bali and Thailand to shoot and direct independent documentaries which will be submitted into film festivals.
What I have learnt from these experiences is invaluable. By these hands on experiences, I have been able to hone in on my camera skills, improve on my directing craft and quickly and concisely put together production management documents to ensure efficient filming to a low budget.
I am enthusiastic and highly motivated to achieve full success in my career. Try me, because I learn fast, and will not settle until I achieve perfection. People often say, ‘perfection is impossible’, but As Neil Gaiman would say, “ I achieved the impossible, because I never knew that it was”
