  • 'M is for Meat' short film

'M is for Meat'. This was my first ever green screen short, and it was a great start, I think. A relaxed atmosphere and fun to do. It's by far the best short I've ever been involved with.

Now, of course, this isn’t a magical world in which everything is fantastic. There were some enjoyable shows and comedians who helped pass the time, but were nothing to write home about, and there were some shows in which I wanted desperately to escape from. I myself am an actor, and in truth, I very much dislike talking ill about anyone or their work, and so in all good consciousness cannot name names of any such failures, or their venues, but I’m somewhat happy to release some details.

A comedian I very much look forward to seeing again was one who was so unbelievably relaxed, confident and down to earth. Luke Toulson’s show was in a wonderful underground cave which you got to through a lovely bar called Cabaret Voltaire, which, from the outside looks deceivingly small. I had the privilege of speaking to him at one point, and he was just as humble as on stage. A genuinely nice and very funny guy, who apparently was also on Russell Howard’s Good News, calling his 11 year old son’s girlfriend ugly, then receiving a worried phone call from the BBC. Another humble and hilarious comedian I had the chance to see and chat to was Aidan Goatley. He has two shows on at The Voodoo Rooms; one which is about him and his father’s relationship through film, and another which includes dodgy dealing in a toilet at a motorway pullover, both of which are great fun and warm the heart.

The city of Edinburgh is that of beauty, with its wonderful, historic architecture, its quaint cobbled streets, and its hills, coupled with huge dips in foundation and open spaces, make it an exceptionally picturesque place to be. All the while being surrounded by several mammoth-sized hills that can only really be described as mountains, and being home to delicacies such as haggis and the deep-fried Mars Bar...as well as deep-fried everything else. But people don’t flood from all corners of the world every August for any of that, nor its incredible ever changing weather. No. They venture here for the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. And this #EdFringe virgin was about to pop his cherry.
