About me

I am a mature student studying Photography at University of Westminster. I have recently had my work published by New Internationalist and am inspired by working voluntarily for Heritage Lottery Funded Projects and Arts Funded projects in my community.

I have photographed community projects for Walcot Foundation who have kindly placed a permanent link to my facebook page on their volunteers page. I practice Portrait Photography, Street Photography, Music Photography, Floral Photography, and Documentary Photography, as well as Architechure and Landscape Photography, which can be seen on my web site angiedavila.co.uk.

I also have in the past painted and parrticipated in exhibitions and performed as a singer songwriter and music promoter, hosting showcases for London acousitc singer-songwriters. I set up and ran the Acoustic Music Foundation in 1996-98.

I have provided photography for Inspired by the Subway, and Stanley Hall People's Initiative and have been invited to cover this year's Crystal Palace Overground Festival, (June 2014), Crystal Palace Film Festival (November 2014), and Streatham Festival, (July 2014).

Documenting vernacular community experience is essential to my practice as I am inspired by the idea of a sense of place and belonging, understanding and discovering meaning, and the degrees of difference and commonality. My interests lie in a celebration of the ordinary and in particular a celebration of the ordinary voices at the grass roots of society.

I am in the early stages of developing my first major project entitled "Crystal Palace Woman - 100 voices".

  • Thanks to Ideas Tap and Magnum Photos for the chance to take part in photographic competitions. Julia Margaret Cameron was 48 years old when she first began taking photographs. More opportunities like this would be great.
