About me

Alex was born in London. He moved to Wiltshire when he was six and attended school nearby, where he was involved in lots of school plays - playing lead roles from a young age - as well as studying Drama for GCSE and A Level at Marlborough College.

After school, he was invited to become a member of the National Youth Theatre, and spent the summer with them, before going to Edinburgh University to take a Masters Degree in Philosophy. Whilst studying, he was heavily involved in student theatre, performing in over twenty shows, as well as several at the Edinburgh Festival. He also attended the National Student Drama Festival - with puppetry company Pangolin's Teatime - and won awards for Best Director and Best Ensemble.

After graduating, he received places at LAMDA, Drama Centre and CSSD, but instead moved to New York for a year, where he trained as an actor at The Barrow Group, and with acting teacher Sondra Lee (a student of Stella Adler). When he returned to London he continued his training at the Actors Temple (Meisner technique).

Alex has performed in numerous plays including Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Dog in the Manger, She Stoops to Conquer, Limehouse Nights, Closer, Age of Consent, Equus, Rich Isn't Easy, Elegies of Angels and Guys and Dolls - as well as pieces of new writing by Lucy Kirkwood and Ella Hickson.

He has played leading roles in short films like The Hummingbird, Alleyman and Happy Accident (which he also wrote and directed), as well as multi-award winning feature, Sable Fable.

In 2008, he wrote and directed his first play, The Space in Between, which performed to sell-out audiences and then transfered to the Orange Tree Theatre in London. He has written another play called Then It Started to Snow, which he hopes to produce in 2014. He continues to work on various other scripts.

Happy Accident was his first film as a writer/director and was completed in 2012 . It is a family drama and stars Tuyen Do (My Father the Communist), Kate Fahy (Archipelago), Tim McInnerney (Notting Hill) and himself.

His second film, Synchronicity (2015), stars Bill Paterson (The Killing Fields), Ty Glaser (Holby City), Ben Aldridge (Lark Rise to Candleford) and himself.

His third film, Fingers (2015) - which secured funding after from "Enter the Pitch" is now complete. It stars Lucy Blanchfield (Smithfield), Ty Glaser (Holby City), Anton Saunders (Rock'n'Rolla), James Alexandrou (Eastenders) and himself.

Now in development is The Cleaner - which is also associated with his first feature, Cash Back (which won first prize in the BFI's "Future Film" pitching competition).
