My work is to move, and hopefully, to move people.
My background was in music and composition before training as a movement artist: I spent ten years training as a Martial Artist, Dancer & Acrobat. I now work primarily as a Concept Writer and Choreographer. I believe genius happens through collaboration, so the body of my work involves conceiving exciting ways to portray movement. I perceive movement as design, working together with artists, designers, engineers and directors with very different backgrounds to create cohesive pieces, that integrate movement, technology, architecture, sound and light into a harmonious and crystalized moment, whether it be for live performance, living installation or film.
I've had extensive performance experience across some diverse projects, often with very different movement language. Some examples include West End's Thriller Live (world tour cast) as a principal dancer and tricker, Raymond Gubbay's 'Aida' at Royal Albert Hall as a movement soloist, London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony as a breakdancer and free-runner, Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron doing motion capture and fight/action sequences, Warner Brother's PAN as a movement artist and screen fighter to name a few. I've also done several projects with wearable electronics, LED weapons and other tech shows. My favourite style is Wushu or Kung Fu, in particular Straight Sword, a weapon style with an almost balletic quality.
Along the way I've met some exceptional movement artists, each with their own forte, and so subsequently founded my first company I.C.Movement ( www.ic-movement.com/Movement ) a collective of specialists in emerging trends such as Parkour, Breakdance, Tricking and Hip-Hop dance, and in classic disciplines such as Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Equilibriste, Capoeira and Wushu. The company was founded to offer a platform for research and development, concept development, training, skill sharing of different movement styles, and mutual support. There is also an agency aspect to the company, supplying artists to various projects, though perhaps the most exciting area is our in-house content, which adheres to the principle of movement as design, and always endeavours to offer the highest production values and clear narratives. With different members realising their artwork different moods and styles emerge, but always with a signature quality.
