Two by Two: An Evening of New Writing 2

Two by Two: An Evening of New Writing invites new writers, students and graduates to send us their scripts, which are then sourced through and two are chosen to be performed over two nights at Derby Theatre Studio. The aim of this evening is to showcase new writing talent. "Ruby's Party" written by Tom Morley and "Flour Plot" written by Daniel David, will be the next two performances.

Something Beginning With

'Something Beginning With' written by Rochelle Mace was performed at the Derby Theatre Studio in July 2012, it received great reviews and was toured to Buxton Opera House in Septemeber 2012. The piece will also be performed at Mansfield, London and the Ediburgh Festival later in 2013. A story of friendship, struggle and a sudden realisation. After a hit and run causes them to crash their car into a tree, Jake and Ollie hide out in the middle of nowhere with just each other and the static on the radio for company. Initially the pair relish in the adventure until a sudden twist in the tale causes them to rethink everything they've been through. This dark comedy explores the lengths the two will go to in order to stay in each other's lives.

In November 2011, ARK Theatre produced their first ever production at the Derby Theatre Studio. This production contained two pieces of new writing 'Intoxicated Pixies' by Ashton Vine - an absurd story following two drunken male pixies on an autumn brown leaf, and 'Something Beginning With' by Rochelle Mace. This production had rave reviews from students of the University of Derby and theatre goers alike.

About me

ARK Theatre is a theatre company producing, and specialising in, new writing in and around the Derbyshire and East Midlands area.

After graduating from University of Derby, we discovered that there was little opportunity for new, up and coming writers to showcase their talents in a real theatre environment and we decided that needed to change.

With both of us being keen writers, and with our combined interest and experience within the theatre, we founded ARK Theatre which quickly became a platform for new writing, incorporating the expertise of current industry professionals, graduates and students alike.

We aim to offer new writers the chance to shine.

After all, professionals built the Titanic…amateurs built the ARK.
