My 2010 End of year report & update

I just thought I'd let you guys know a bit about me and what I have been up to in this last year...

*In May I was offered the chance to perform at Musikvalvet in Sweden and accepted the offer, giving a performance at this venue on 24th June 2010. I performed an hour set here and wrote new material for the venture. I received a good response from the music I performed here and I am now in contact with a producer who was at the gig and who is interested in a musical collaboration. For this performance I was able to arrange for a local (Anders) to promote and film my set. Anders runs the biggest video musical networking site in Sweden. Videos of my performance will soon be available to view online. Audio recordings of this performance were also made and are already available to listen to at:

*Following my trip to Sweden, in July I traveled to New York for 9 days with a group of musicians and friends to experience music in America. I attended a few open mic nights and jam sessions and spent a lot of time networking with people and organisations that I can revisit when I return there (hopefully next year). The Village Underground in New York is one very well known and well attended live music club I would love to return to and perform my own music at.

*At the end of July I took part in the UK Unsigned Showcase at the 02 Arena, Shepherds Bush Empire in London.

This was a wonderful experience where I was given my own dressing room and an opportunity to meet some very talented individuals. I took part in the singer and songwriter category where the format was a competition. Although I did not win, my final position was within the final top ten. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to perform my own material at such a prestigious venue in London. Again this performance was filmed and is available to view online at the link below.

*In August I traveled to Germany as part of Roots and Routes and ABi for the two week Peer Coach Academy.

This has to have been the best two weeks of my life so far! This is where I was given the chance to meet a massive variety of people from all over Europe and collaborate with them on a creative level.

During the two weeks spent in Germany, I both laughed and cried whilst experiencing a great deal and having so much fun!

I met 26 young people from musicians to dancers to graphic artists and media makers from Cologne, Rotterdam, Budapest and London! After week one, I got together with a bunch of very talented musicians and worked with them intensively to create some music. Collectively we wrote, played, taught, collaborated, performed, practiced and rehearsed. Together we wrote a total of two songs, one of which has been uploaded to my MySpace page in the form of an MP3 with the self-made title,‘A Story Told Internationally’. The other we performed live at Club Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld in Cologne.

I am very pleased to say that through this trip, not only have I made some new friends overseas but I have also gained a greater understanding of who I am, the goals I would like to achieve in life and learned a great deal about how to teach workshops effectively and on a professional level.

This October I had a performance at The Bedford in Balham. This is a very well known venue in London and for this performance I collaborated with a dancer who helped to aid in the portraying of the meaning in my songs.I also used some sign language at this performance which went down a treat!

This is was last gig before the end of this year. Following this I will go into 'hibernation' to write more original material as well as promote my material more.

Overall 2010 has been a busy year and I cannot deny that there have been many ups and downs. However, I am very grateful for all of the opportunities I have been given and everything I have experienced both good and bad, as I believe that these experiences are what will help me to grow and will shape me into the person that I am to eventually become. This year I feel I have grown and I hope to be able to do even more growing, experiencing creating, collaborating and learning in the years to come. Goals for next year involve starting a regular dance class, gaining some more qualifications, collaborating with more artists, writing my own production involving music, dance, drama physical theatre and poetry and touring the world with my productions.
