Sky Academy

At Sky, we want to use our position as a leading media and communications company to make a positive impact on society. Our ambition is to create opportunities for up to one million young people to build skills and experience by 2020. We want to play our part in giving young people the help and opportunities they need to succeed in a changing world.

That’s where Sky Academy comes in. It’s a unique and ground-breaking set of initiatives that use the power of television, creativity and sport to inspire young people and help them reach their potential. Sky Academy is comprised of four initiatives, with a fifth initiative built around creativity and arts to follow in 2014. These include,

  • Sky Skills Studios An interactive learning experience that takes young people behind the scenes at Sky.
  • Sky Sports Living for Sport - A national schools-based initiative that uses sports stars and sports skills to help build young people’s confidence and life skills.
  • Sky Academy Starting Out - A comprehensive programme of work experience and employment opportunities that opens up Sky to young people, helping to raise their aspirations and prepare them for the world of work.
  • Sky Academy Scholarships – A bursary scheme that supports some of the most exciting emerging talent in the worlds of sport, the arts and TV

Sky Academy Arts Scholarships were formerly known as the Sky Arts Futures Fund, but apart from the name change all other elements remain the same. We will continue to annually support five artists giving each £30,000 plus mentoring to help develop their creative practice.

Bella Vuillermoz, Director, Sky Academy said: “Sky Academy is all about helping young people fulfil their potential and so we are thrilled to continue our support of emerging UK and Irish artistic talent. Supporting the development of young artists is crucial to the future vitality of the arts in the UK, and we are proud to once again be working with Sky Arts, and IdeasTap, to do this. We can’t wait to support another five brilliant young artists.”

Whether you want to direct a piece of theatre, choreograph a new dance piece, write a play, record an album, create a sculpture, a live art performance or produce, Sky Academy will give you the time and money to make it happen. They’ll also pair you with a mentor from Sky and the arts to help you develop your networks, skills and knowledge in the arts and the commercial sector.

Artists can submit an application in one of five categories: Theatre, Creative Writing, Music, Visual Art, Dance or Creative Producing.
