An ambitious Community Musical about Health & Wellbeing

...was released in The Old Vic Tunnels during the spring of 2012.

For EPIDEMIC Old Vic New Voices commissioned writer Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and composer Suzy Davies; to create a new musical inspired by the thoughts and feelings of the 250 Londoners who took part in our research in 2011.

In 2012 we assembled an amazingly diverse volunteer company of 16 - 70 year olds made up of dancers, singers, backstagers and musicians to bring this epic tale to life.

The Story…
Marlon is a young man with a problem. He is finding it hard to get the help he needs from a system he doesn’t trust. One day, he decides to get away, hops into the nearest vehicle and drives off. When he finds that there are two people in the vehicle with him who share his feelings of isolation, a simple journey cross-country to see the sea turns into a crusade against false perceptions and a confused society. As a media panic whips up frenzy, the kind of frenzy that goes to the heart of government, Marlon begins to wonder if he’s in over his head...

This was one of the best examples of community theatre I have ever seen...It addressed serious and relevant issues in a way that amused, saddened and entertained...
You could see how much everyone enjoyed it. There was a feeling of togetherness and pride from the cast members in the creation of something they shared’
