Magnum Photos

Magnum Photos is a photographic co-operative of great diversity and distinction owned by its photographer-members.

With powerful individual vision, Magnum photographers chronicle the world and interpret its peoples, events, issues and personalities. Through its four editorial offices in New York, London, Paris and Tokyo, and a network of fifteen sub-agents, Magnum Photos provides photographs to the press, publishers, advertising, television, galleries and museums across the world.

Two years after the apocalypse that was called the Second World War ended, Magnum Photos was founded. The world's most prestigious photographic agency was formed by four photographers - Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David "Chim" Seymour - who created Magnum in 1947 to reflect their independent natures as both people and photographers; the idiosyncratic mix of reporter and artist that continues to define Magnum.

Today Magnum represents 57 working photographers and over 15 Estates, including a new class of documentary and art-based photographers alongside more traditional journalism.

As part of our 60th year anniversary celebrations in 2007, Magnum Photos launched a series of unique worldwide activities focusing on photography in the global community. Magnum's educational and outreach events provide opportunities for photographers at different stages in their careers to benefit from the vast experience of Magnum's established photographers and employees.  Through a variety of Workshops, portfolio reviews, Masterclasses, University partnerships and visiting lectures, Magnum Photos is able to reach out to a larger audience of photographers, enthusiasts, students and fans of photography.

Events offer hands-on practical, technical and theoretical advice to help participants develop their own visual language and the skills required to compete in photography?s changing marketplace.  Events to date have been coordinated in Norway, UK, USA and Canada, with an exciting global event schedule organised for the future.
