Photographers! Graphic designers! Illustrators! Would you like to see your work on the cover of a magazine? Well you’re in luck, because the winners of our Anthology brief, Brain Wash, are offering you the chance to do just that.

As you’ll recall: with the Anthology, we awarded one arts collective funding and support to create an online magazine. Brain Wash’s winning idea, Long Live the New Flesh, is a celebration of the next breed of contemporary filmmakers and artists. Their magazine will explore the democratisation of moving image art forms by looking at what the moving image is and how our relationship to it is changing. 

The zine’s title comes from cult 80s horror flick Videodrome, directed by David Cronenberg. Focusing on a sinister television show, called Videodrome, the film examines how mainstream media controls people’s lives. In one of the movie’s most powerful moments, the lead character delivers the seminal line "Death to Videodrome, Long live the new flesh". His act of defiance represents a turning point in how we feel about media: out with the old and in with the new. In many ways, it champions individualism and rejects conformity, giving us hope in a new age of democratised media consumption and production. 

Now here’s where you come in. Brain Wash are calling on IdeasTap members to submit original images responding to the line, “DEATH TO VIDEODROME, LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH” and the best two will become the front and back covers of the anthology. 

You can use whichever medium you think works best, be it photography, new media or illustration, but the image must be entirely your own creation, submitted as a 300 dpi .psd or high quality .jpeg file. If it appears on the front cover, you’ll earn £100; if it goes on the back cover and you’ll earn £50. 

This brief closes at 5pm on Tuesday 20 March and is open to all IdeasTap members of any age. Winners will be announced on 25 March. If you have any technical queries, email info@ideastap.com.
