National Youth Theatre’s artistic vision is to produce topical work that immediately responds to the world in which young people live. With this in mind, we are running Press Play across the UK – a project in which four regional teams of young theatre makers will be tasked with producing, rehearsing and performing a brand new play, urgently responding to the most recent local, national and international news.
This unique opportunity to challenge your theatre-making skills and collaborate to create a play from scratch will take place in four regions around the UK. Working with Hull Truck in Hull, the National Youth Theatre and IdeasTap are excited to be bringing Press Play to Yorkshire. We are looking for emerging artists who are excited by collaboration, performance and the challenge of taking on roles they’ve not done before. Each group will be mentored by NYT Associate Artists.
Under the guidance of National Youth Theatre and the local venue, successful applicants will also receive an invitation to an additional day of workshops, including auditions skills and guidance in developing a successful CV.
As part of Press Play - Hull, NYT and IdeasTap will be hosting two Spa events at the Hull Truck Theatre on Saturday 21st April. For an opportunity to attend an exclusive Free Improvisation Masterclass and/or a Q&A with the stars of Coronation Street visit The Spa page.
The brief is open to local young people aged 16 to 25 who are looking for pathways into creative industries, networking opportunities and who wish to exercise their creativity. Travel and accommodation costs will not be provided, and entrants must therefore be living, working or studying in the local region.
In each region, we are looking for 15 generous and motivated young theatre makers. Over the duration of the project, you will be expected to take on different roles based on the work that emerges over the four days, and you will all perform the work created in a final showing.
To apply for Press Play – Hull, you need to be available for the following dates:
