Description

HighTide is looking to cast IdeasTap members in a rehearsed reading of HeteROgeny by Mona Bozdog.

HeteROgeny is based on interviews with Romanian students about home in Romania, home in the UK, and the dreaded UKBA [UK Border Agency].  They’re coming to the UK in search of their ‘holy grail’ - football for some, culture for others, tall men in clean-cut suits for others.

This is a play that shows that prejudices and preconceptions are never a one-way street. It is a glance beyond the façade of diversity and multiculturalism and into the face of nationalism and xenophobia.

HeteROgeny, by Mona Bozdog, forms part of HighTide’s series of rehearsed readings with IdeasTap this November. The performance itself will take place at 12pm on Tuesday 25 November at HighTide’s London offices, with rehearsals that morning and also on Monday 24 November. Performers will be a paid a flat fee of £100. Casting will take place on Friday 7 November at HighTide’s London HQ.

Mona Bozdog is a Romanian playwright and dramaturg. She enjoys pushing the boundaries of what is considered to be writing for the stage. In Romania, her plays have received recognition for innovative writing and her most recent play, Lost in Transition, was performed in The Arches Live Festival (Glasgow, October 2014).

The reading will be directed by Caitlin McLeod, director of The Malcontent by John Marston atShakespeare’s Globe and this year’s Escalator Plays performance at the HighTide Festival.
