We’re giving 20 IdeasTap members the opportunity to develop their clowning skills in an intensive one-day clowning workshop with performer, director, and teacher Uri Roodner.

This is a great opportunity for you to either learn clowning skills, or hone your existing abilities.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday 15 January 2014, 10am to 5pm, at a Central London location.

Companies formed by pupils of Uri have recieved numerous awards, such as a Scotsman Fringe First, Adelaide Critics’ Circle award for best ensemble, and a Chortle Comedy award for best comedy sketch group. Companies include Bear Trap Theatre, Late Night Gimp Fight, 2headed Pigeon, Snuff Box Theatre and Antler Theatre. 

About Uri Roodner

Uri Roodner has enjoyed an extensive career as a performer, director and teacher. During the 1980s and 1990s he trained, or collaborated with, some of the great European clowns including Philippe Gaulier, Pierre Byland, Lindsay Kemp, Angela De Castro, Marcello Magni and Desmond Jones.

He has appeared in major British theatres including The Royal Court, Sadler’s Wells and The Arts Theatre West End, and in films by major directors such as Michael Winterbottom and the Brothers Quay. Throughout the 1990s he toured internationally with Tottering Biped Theatre that he co-founded with Katie London. The Times hailed their work as “comic, strikingly creative, berserkly funny”.  

Uri has taught for major institutions in London, New York, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Madrid and Tel-Aviv. He is a senior lecturer at East 15 School of Acting where he designed and developed the renowned ‘CT’ (BA Acting and Contemporary Theatre), a course dedicated to the training of innovative, and entrepreneurial, multitalented performers.
