Free auditions for the 2013 NYT REP Company are now open, for all NYT members aged 17-25, you’ll need to be 18 by 2 April 2013..
Launched in March 2012, the NYT REP Company is a response to the rise in university and drama-school fees, offering free, practical, industry-based training over eight months to 12 talented members, following two rounds of auditions.
Our 2012 REP Company trained with NYT up until September, and took part in a whole host of experiences ranging from Shakespeare workshops on the NT Olivier stage with Nick Hytner and at the RSC in Stratford, to voice work with BBC Radio Drama.
Individually mentored by industry professionals such as David Walliams, Griselda Yorke and Kate Cavanagh, this year’s REP also worked with Frantic Assembly, Kneehigh, Shine Drama and Old Vic New Voices, and spoke extensively to high-profile actors and directors such as Josie Rourke and Michael Grandage about the industry at large.
Alongside regular vocal training, the REP worked with a variety of NYT directors and leading writers before their journey culminated in a London showcase performed to an invited industry audience of casting directors and agents. Eighty per cent of the NYT REP gained interest, from agencies including Independent Talent, United Agents, Lou Coulson Associates, Emptage Hallett, Scott Marshall Partners and Ken Mcreddie Associates.
Like all NYT activities, the ethos behind the REP training is “learning by doing it, not theorising” and next year’s REP promises to be just as successful and high-profile in its partnerships, focusing on the traditional work of a repertory company (three plays, one company) and platforming NYT talent at its best.
